InPsychology opens in Kempsey

A new psychology practice has been established in Kempsey. InPsychology practice located at 236 River Street, Kempsey, will offer all services related to general psychology including psychological assessment, diagnosis, psychotherapies, reporting and exemplary client care. The new location is just two minutes from the Kempsey District Hospital and with on-site car parking, professional staff and comfortable counselling suites clients will find the new practice environment a healing experience.

Michael Hawes gained registration in New South Wales in 2012 and provides an extensive background experience as a counsellor/psychologist with local Mental Health, Palliative Care and Drug and Alcohol services in the Hastings/ Macleay area since 2003. Michael’s principal role with the In_Psychology practice is direct client-focused psychology services under the Medicare enhanced primary care initiative and he is a registered Medicare, DVA and Work Cover (NSW) provider. Private treatment services are also offered. As a contractor with the Primary Care Network he offers all levels of service to Healthy Minds strategy aimed at early intervention and providing better outcomes in Mental Health. His many skills include the assessment of cognitive, perceptual, and emotional states, and additional diagnosis formulation to achieve the most appropriate psychological intervention for mental health wellbeing. He is an experienced and trained psychotherapist with clients which include children (5+), adolescents, and adults.

Michael continues to contribute to Kempsey Mental Health services and has previous experience within NSW Corrective and Juvenile Justice Settings, NGO community welfare, and child and family services clientele. Previous roles have included cognitive assessment, dual diagnosis, psychotherapy interventions, and joint care management of patients with serious or chronic psychological disorders in both acute inpatient and community settings. Additionally, he has assisted Palliative Care Services as a Bereavement Counsellor and continues to contribute to the Australian Psychological Society’s (APS) Disaster Response Network with telephone counselling support during times of natural disaster or civil tragedy.

Michael is a current board member of the Local Australian Psychological Society branch committee which assists with the representation and development of best practice psychological practice and activities for continued professional development for psychologists on the Mid North Coast. He is also a member of the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abuse. ANZATSA is dedicated to community protection and safety through the promotion of professional standards, practices, and education in sexual abuse prevention, assessment, intervention and research.
